I hold a B.A. in French and Spanish from Douglass College, Rutgers University and an M.A. in French from Middlebury College as well as Diplome Superieur de Francais des Affaires from l'Ecole de la Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris.

Experience

I have over 20 years of experience providing instruction in the areas of ESL, French and Spanish. I have worked as a high school teacher, college instructor, and private tutor. I began working with ESL students as an Assistante d'Anglais while completing my graduate degree in Paris. Since then, I have taught all levels of ESL, including Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, Advanced Pronunciation, Advanced Grammar, and TOEFL Prep, in local community colleges, organizations, and companies. As an ESL tutor, I have provided instruction to students from middle school through graduate school. I am also a Certified Rater for the TOEIC Exam. In addition, I have taught all levels of French and beginning through intermediate Spanish as a high school teacher and college instructor. I have provided tutoring in these languages from the high school level through college. I have also worked with graduate students who need to master a reading knowledge of a language. In terms of methodology, I am familiar with the communicative method and use this as much as possible. However, I also use my knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary of other languages I have studied to help explain the finer or more complex points of language and to provide a point of reference. In essence, learning languages is a passion for me. To date, I have had some level of study in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Irish, Arabic, and Chinese. I enjoy discovering the relationships between languages as well as the nuances within each (and within each dialect). Most of all, I enjoy sharing my affinity for language with others through teaching and tutoring.
